Hebrew is the term describing descendants of Jacob during their enslavement and before becoming a nation in the desert and in the promise land.

Before Moses was born, The Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt. Rameses I who was pharaoh at the time was afraid a prophecy of a deliverer. He sent his soldiers to kill the Hebrew male children to prevent the prophecy from coming true. But while the soldiers killed the male children, One mother set her newborn son adrift in a basket on the Nile in hopes he would survive. The child was later found by Bithiah and raised as a prince named Moses He grows up and later is called by God to free his people
